Makabayan-Nacionalista senatorial candidate Liza Maza slammed on Monday US radio commentator Adam Carolla for his blatantly racist comments against the Philippines and the Filipino people, and demanded that he make an immediate public apology.

"Mr. Carolla's racist comments are injurious to the confidence of the Filipinos and undermine the reputation of the Philippines as a nation of hardworking people. An immediate and sincere public apology is in order," Maza said.

Carolla, during his podcast, called the Philippines a country of prostitutes and sex workers and said that the Filipinos has no other things to brag about except for Manny Pacquiao and the country's sex stories.

Some of Carolla's comments were "...Get a (expletive) life as a country!" and "All they have over there (the Philippines) is Manny Pacquiao and sex tours".

"The attitude he showed was unbecoming of a professional: it borders on ignorance of the ethical standards in broadcasting, as well as on desperation to gain popularity to the extent of maliciously poking fun at another person or group of persons," Maza said.

"While Mr. Carolla is entitled to free expression of his opinion, his freedom comes with responsibility. His job as a radio commentator demands that he exercise great caution in communicating his views because of his position which holds relative influence on others," Maza said. ###
