Maza welcomes Supreme Court decision recognizing Ang Ladlad Partylist group
“I welcome the Supreme Court decision to recognize Ang Ladlad as an accredited partylist group and to include its name in the ballots in the 2010 elections. The Commission on Elections should be made aware that lesbians, gays, transgenders, and bisexuals must be accorded their right to participate in the elections and other political processes. “
Thus said Senatorial candidate Rep. Liza Maza today as the Supreme Court announced its decision yesterday.
Maza said the COMELEC should lose no time in implementing the decision as the election campaign period nears.
The Nacionalista Party guest candidate also appealed to the Supreme Court to recognize partylists Courage and ACT Teachers Party, and allow Migrante Sectoral Party to run in the partylist elections. The three parties are members of Makabayan Coalition, a coalition of progressive partylists.
“These are legitimate partylist organizations of the marginalized and underrepresented sectors in our society. They should be ones who should be accredited, and not those questionable pro-Arroyo partylist organizations ,” Maza concluded.
